This is the second level of Total Immersion skills swim clinics focusing on  the catch, breathing and the 2 beat kick.  These freestyle techniques that you can apply to your swimming workouts for triathlons to help add speed while not sacrificing your technique. Coached by Total Immersion Master Coach, Suzanne Atkinson, MD

This is a 2-hour pool workshop focusing on speed development through both technique and smart practice planning for your swimming workouts.  Clinic limited to 12 students to maximize coaching feedback.  Cost $80 for single clinic

Description of Clinic

This workshop will put you on the path from efficient to expert in freestyle by honing freestyle swimming techniques of Balance and Streamline skills and introducing advanced Propulsion skills of breathing, catch and the 2 beat kick.

During this clinic you will have video feedback both above and below water to review immediately and make changes in your skill & technique .

We will review the following skills first and then build on them with propulsive skills:

Balance.

Establish high, wide elbows. Tune up spinal stabilizer muscles. Together these increase comfort and control while breathing, hold a sleek body line during recovery, and strengthen the connection between weight shift and propulsion.

Streamline.

Keep a longer, lower-drag body-line as you breathe and swim faster. Control leg-splay and knee-flex to reduce drag, and increase kick-effectiveness.

Effective Propulsion.

Convert Force (horsepower) into Locomotion by (1) Position your extended arm to trap the maximum volume of water; (2) Move your body forward — rather than move your hand back; and (3) Do both with no arm fatigue. Also learn how to synchronize a 2-Beat Kick with the rest of your stroke for more effortless power.

Breathing.

Be more comfortable and effective while breathing. Breathe bilaterally and as often as you want without compromising speed or efficiency by (1) improving head-spine alignment; (2) improve ease and timing by using weight shift to move you to the breath.

WHAT TO BRING:

We recommend that male students wear a Speedo-type brief or close-fitting triathlon swim shorts, rather than loose-fitting swim trunks, which can make balance even more of a challenge.

Bring a snack and a water bottle
