This is the third in a series of 3 swim clinics for the Pittsburgh Triathlon, focusing on open water skills including pack swimming, sighting & drafting.

This is a 2 hour coached swim clinic to help learn swimming skills for open water mass start swimming.  This will be held in the pool, but with simulated race elements.   All swim abilities welcome.    Clinic limited to 16 students to maximize coaching feedback.  Cost $50 for single clinic or $120 for all 3 swim clinics.  (See 3 Swim Clinic Package to register for all 3)

Description of Clinic

Swimming in open water presents challenges not present in a pool, however many of these skills can be practiced in a pool with simulated conditions and elements of open water swimming.  Swimming straight, sighting while swimming, and dealing with waves, current & chop can be anxiety producing if not practiced.  Knowing how to prepare for these conditions will not only improve your swimming but reduce race day anxiety.

In addition, mass or wave start swims involve swimming in close proximity to other swimmers.   Practicing skills such as “synchronized” swimming, side-by-side swimming, drafting, sandwiching and ‘spirit’ swimming will improve your confidence which will help you save energy and reduce anxiety.

WHAT TO BRING:
We recommend that male students wear a Speedo-type brief or close-fitting triathlon swim shorts, rather than loose-fitting swim trunks, which can make balance even more of a challenge.
